Old Beach breathes new life into modern living
This is nature’s greatest painting. A landscape of living art where the sun rises over Mount Direction, and sets across the River Derwent, casting a spell of waterside iridescence at the day’s end. This is a rare position which immerses you in Tasmania’s rich history, among some of Australia’s most breathtaking scenery.
From dawn to dusk, experience the magic of the estuary – awash with nature’s finest colours - green mountains, blue waters, earthy terrain – for a lifestyle of new imagining. Inspiration for families and downsizers chasing the dream of a life in perfect balance.
The feeling of freedom, with open rainfall showers and bold picture windows unveiling the beauty of Old Beach.
Waterside lets you into the secrets of Old Beach with an intimate setting of 15 distinctive townhouses – a choice of four designs including the luxury of Waters Edge, gracing the calm waters of the Derwent River.
Doors opening to panoramic views from your deck – bringing the outdoors in.
Old Beach holds many treasures. For history buffs and lovers of culture, here are some fascinating places and pursuits in Tasmania’s south.
- The Old Beach Jetty ran a ferry service established in 1816 by convicts John Earle and James Austin. After serving their sentences for stealing beehives and honey, the men began a ferry run across the river.
- The shipwreck of the Otago, a steel river steamer once under the command of author Joseph Conrad, remains in the bay after it was beached there in 1931.
- If you fancy a splurge, travel to the MONA art museum. Add high tea, wine tasting or underground cocktails for the full sensory experience.
- Hike to the windswept summit of Mount Wellington. Take the circuit loop from the Springs and be rewarded with one of the most magnificent views in Tassie – a backdrop to Hobart from a spectacular height of 1271m.
